Scharlie Martin is the pen name (alter ego) of a retired product engineer/tax man with a master’s degree in English and a great love of the English language and all the old fiction masters like Ernest Hemingway, Steven Crane, Robert Frost and a whole host of others.

William R. Green

A seeker of Truth in the non-fiction field.

William R. Green is the man behind the Scharlie Martin nom de plume. Scharlie is a nickname from my military service days and Martin is my mother's maiden name. Bill, as my friends call me, would have stayed hidden behind the nom de plume penname had it not been for the fact that President Donald Trump believes he is above the law and is, in fact, currently considering pardoning himself and various members of his family. I believe passionately in Democracy and have a tendency to butt in with my two cents worth.

Arlene has been writing poetry for a local paper called Senior Perspective for several years and has developed considerable following among the ladies in the community.

NOVELS

Novels are for telling the bigger story. In Beware That Old Spoonin’ Moon, for example, the real story is that Russell’s wife Maria leaves him for no apparent reason other than moving in with her sister and mother. This all takes place after Maria asks Russell if he can become Catholic. Russell agreed that he could attend church, but he felt like it would be impossible to lie to God about his true beliefs. What follows in the book is simply the aftermath of Russell having his life devastated that way. The irony of the book is that the premise (Maria leaving Russell) is based on real life. Writing the book was my way of dealing with the emotions of my wife leaving, and what I felt like doing, but didn’t.

Marching as to War was originally my master’s thesis when I got my master’s degree in 1976. It smoldered in a desk draw for some forty years, until I decided it’s now or never and took the self-publishing bull by the horns. Admittedly, it has undergone some slight transformation in updating it for publication, but the basic premise and story remain the same.

NOVELLAS & SHORT STORIES

A short story collection called: The Godbird Stories is in the works and will be released toward the end of 2021 or the beginning of 2022. The short story collection includes my novella, Li'l Mo.

NON-FICTION

The Bid for the Throne (Democracy in Crisis) is of course non-fiction. It will probably be followed by a sequel, depending on how the aftermath of the election goes. If the month of November is any indication of what the future holds, there is a definite need to try and explain President Trump's refusal to accept reality . . . to admit that he did, indeed, lose the 2020 election. We'll have to see how that situation plays out to see if it is worthy of another book.

POETRY

Brandy Apple Days n’ Dandelions contains most of the poems that Scharlie has written with the exception of the poems in the chapbook collection called Everything Flows to the Sea, which is in the works. Arlene Green's chapbook Moonbeams And Dreams will also be available as soon as our website is fully updated.
